Languages for Business Qualifications

LCCIEB has introduced a new range of Languages for Business exams in French, German and Spanish. Languages for Business has been modelled on our very successful English for Business qualification.

It has been developed to enable candidates to demonstrate their reading and writing skills and will be available from Preliminary to Level 4, with an optional oral test at Levels 2, 3 and 4.


A free Information Pack consisting of a sample exam paper, model answers and syllabus is available for each level of each language. Please complete the "Request info" form to order your Infopack.


Languages for Business

Preliminary Level
The syllabus topics at Preliminary Level are:

  • Simple office or place of work descriptions
  • Simple jobs and roles in a work context
  • Simple social language within a business context
  • Simple work or business-related instructions and directions
  • Simple numerical information
  • Standard business or work-related messages

In addition, candidates will be expected to demonstrate a level of linguistic competence.Candidates at Preliminary Level are assessed via a 90 minute examination paper.

Level 1
The syllabus topics at Level 1 are:

  • Composing a simple business letter or memo
  • Basic business reading comprehension
  • Business information processing
  • Business text and data reformulation

In addition, candidates will be expected to demonstrate a level of linguistic competence.
Candidates will be assessed via a 2 hour examination paper.

Level 2
The syllabus topics at Level 2 are:

  • Business letters
  • Company leaflets
  • Business reports
  • Business-related articles
  • Lists and/or structured notes
  • Memos
  • Company notices

Candidates will be assessed via a 2½ hour examination paper. For those Languages for Business candidates who wish to gain certification of their speaking and listening skills there is at Level 2 an optional Oral Test which is administered by the Centre. For more information please complete

Level 3
The syllabus topics at Level 3 are:

  • Composing a business letter
  • Drafting an internal company report
  • Business-related text comprehension
  • Business-related text comprehension
  • Business-related text comprehension
  • Business-related text and data conversion and reformulation

In addition, candidates will be expected to demonstrate a level of linguistic competence.
This qualification is intended for candidates who have reached a standard in French, German or Spanish usage which will enable them to write acceptable French, German or Spanish without
employer embarrassment. This qualification is intended for those candidates who have progressed beyond, or are above, the standard of French, German or Spanish for Business Level 2. Candidates will
be assessed via a 3 hour examination paper.
